In his career spanning over two decades, Saif Ali Khan has found his niche in the genre of romcoms. While he has had an Omkara or Being Cyrus, Saif has been a part of quite a few romantic comedies like Kal Ho Na Ho, Hum Tum, Love Aaj Kal and Cocktail. After trying his hand at a zombie comedy (Go Goa Gone), heartland masala (Bullet Raja) and slapstick comedy (Humshakals), the actor is back to romcoms with Happy Ending.
“What made Happy Ending interesting for me was how well written the characters are and their relationships with each other,” Saif explains, adding, “There is an obsessive ex (Kalki) who you can’t figure out if you are or aren’t in a relationship with; Ranvir (Shorey) plays a henpecked husband; and Ileana is a writer who is very competitive and thinks like a man.” He describes Happy Ending as “a spoof on romcoms”. “That is what makes it unlike other romcoms.”
The film pairs Saif with Govinda and their sensibilities couldn’t be more different. “We are two very different planets. It was hysterical to work with him. Through the shoot, I think, we just kept trying to figure each other out. His ease in front of the camera is just something else.”
