Did Farhan Akhtar just hint at a sequel to Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan’s Dil Chahta Hai?

Dil Chahta Hai starred Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni and Dimple Kapadia. The film was Farhan Akhtar’s directorial debut.

The iconic film celebrates 15 years today.

Who just doesn’t love Dil Chahta Hai?

The oft-watched timeless tale of friendship between Akash, Sid and Sameer and how they experience love and live, is still as fresh and relevant as it was 15 years back when it was released this day.

Dil Chahta Hai was a film that brought in the millennial wave to Bollywood cinema, and showed the way out to rehashed plots like revenge dramas and family reunion plots. The film also marked the directorial debut of the multi-faceted Farhan Akhtar, who later directed Lakshya and the Don franchise, before foraying into acting.

So are you looking forward to see a sequel to the film? If yes, then you need to read ahead…

On the 15th anniversary of the film, Farhan is letting us on a little secret, or is he? He is hinting that there could be a sequel to the iconic film.

It all started when one of Aamir Khan’s fan clubs tweeted to Farhan with regards to the 15th anniversary of the film, and asking him if there is a sequel to the film. It had tweeted, “@FarOutAkhtar thank you for giving us this cult. It’s time u gear up for a sequel. It won’t be easy but then who likes easy challenges!”

To which, Farhan sent out a cryptic reply, “Watch this space. 😉 #DCHturns15 @AamirKhanTemple”

Now what does that mean? Is our dream coming true? So is Farhan Akhtar choosing to work over the Dil Chahta Hai sequel over Shah Rukh Khan’s Don triquel? Will the entire cast, including a busy Aamir Khan, an elusive Akshaye Khanna and a married Preity Zinta return for the sequel? Well, like Farhan said, watch this space for more updates!

Dil Chahta Hai starred Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni and Dimple Kapadia. It was released in the same year as Aamir Khan’s Oscar nominated Lagaan.
