Rumour: Is Saif Ali Khan stepping into the Katrina Kaif’s starrer Raat Baaki?

Karan Johar has no choice but to replace Fawad in the scheme of things. Fawad’s loss may be Saif’s gain

With Karan Johar swearing not to cast any Pakistani talent in his future projects, his next with Katrina Kaif Raat Baaki- to be directed by Aditya Dhar- was left without a leading man. Karan had earlier paired Katrina with Fawad Khan.

Karan has been looking for Fawad’s replacement since the past few days and it appears that he has zeroed in on Saif Ali Khan.

This casting is an interesting one because this is Karan’s third attempt to woo Saif Ali Khan.

Karan had approached the Nawab to play Aishwarya Rai’s ex-husband in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil but the casting coup fell apart. Karan then asked Shah Rukh Khan to step in. That sorted, Karan reportedly turned to Saif once again. After the inclusion of Fawad Khan in the cast threatened the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Karan was reportedly looking to replace him with the Nawab of Pataudi. That too did not happen as Fawad’s appearance was retained in the film’s final cut.

But it looks like Saif may now after all step into Fawad’s shoes.

However, Saif Ali Khan is not Karan’s first choice for Raat Baaki. The filmmaker had originally considered casting Sidharth Malhotra.

But given the bad reviews and the lacklustre response to the film at the ticket windows that KJo’s last Sidharth-Katrina offering Baar Baar Dekho received, KJo changed his mind and went back to Saif.

“Karan has already narrated the script to Saif and Saif seems to have liked it,” says a source.

Saif Ali Khan starred in Dharma Productions’ hit Kal Ho Na Ho, but has never been directed by Karan Johar till date. Will the two finally collaborate? The ball is in Saif’s court now.
