Saif Ali Khan is back in the kitchen

Actor training with a real chef in a Mumbai five-star ahead of the climax of his new film

After a long paternity leave, it’s back to work for Saif Ali Khan. But as he resumed shooting recently for the gastronomical comedy-drama Chef, he is undergoing a 10-day training at a suburban five-star to brush up on his culinary skills. Since Monday, the actor has been training for three hours daily under chef Ranjit Thomas, the executive sous-chef of the Mumbai hotel.

According to a source close to the development, Chef’s climax will be filmed in a restaurant. This portion will be shot in New York, where they will fly to, in a few weeks.

“Before the film kicked off, Saif trained in Indian cuisine, now his focus is fine dining, international cuisine. The techniques are very different and he has to look convincing as a professional chef,” the source reasoned.

Director Raja Krishna Menon confirmed the news, admitting that they’re back in the kitchen for Saif to hone his skills. “I want Saif to be able to make every dish in this film like a professional would, so he is putting in extra hours under chef Ranjit to perfect his skills and techniques,” he said.

Chef kicked off last October and has been shot across India, with schedules in Kerala, Goa, Delhi and Amritsar. The film is inspired by Jon Favreau’s 2014 Hollywood film by the same title.
