Saif Ali Khan was super chilled: Svar Kamble

I love acting, but I want to pursue cinematography,” says the 14-year-old Svar Kamble, who was one of the star attractions at the opening ceremony of the International Children’s film festival. The child actor, who shot to fame with Saif Ali Khan’s Chef, was thrilled to catch a glimpse of himself on the big screen as his film School Chalega, was screened on Wednesday. The 110-minute-long film, directed by Ameet Prajapati, revolves around the story of two slum children, one of who, Kaali, protects the other deaf and mute child, Goonj from trafficking sharks. But what he’s really excited about is donning the jury’s cap for the festival. “I’m looking forward to some great films and visuals, which I could probably use along the way. I also hope to work with some of the little directors who are here,” he adds. Svar is part of 12-member child jury panel, who will join the adult jury in selecting best films in various categories.

The confident youngster has already worked with two of Indian cinema’s biggest matinee idols, Saif Ali Khan (Chef) and Dhanush, in his upcoming hollywood flick, The extraordinary journey of a Fakir. working with such big names has only inspired him to learn more, says Svar. “Working with Saif and Dhanush taught me a lot. But they both are very different. With Saif, I used to discuss global issues. We had lot of deep conversations as we were on the move for a large part of the shoot. Saif is so chill that we once began talking about our

existence when we were stuck in heavy traffic,” says Svar. He adds, “Dhanush is really humble and kind, with no arrogance at all. So, he would really help me get things right as it was a Hollywood project we worked on.” While both his co-stars inspired him, looks like he has more than just acting on his mind. “Acting is great but I was blown away by Priya Seth’s cinematography in Chef! In one of the shots, she moves the camera from the top of a double-decker bus all the way to the bottom, with no cuts!” gleams the young boy. “There is so much to learn about camera movements, and that’s where the fun lies,” he adds, utterly bewildered with the art of filmmaking.

The director, Gauravv K Chawla, will shoot for 10 days in Mumbai, which will postpone the movie’s release to March-April 2018.

Along with Khan, Baazaar also features Radhika Apte, Chitrangda Singh and Denzel Smith in pivotal roles.

Saif Ali Khan bows out of Kabir Khan’s show on Subhash Chandra Bose

While Rajkummar Rao’s web series, Bose: Dead/Alive, has raced to the finish line and even released its trailer yesterday, Kabir Khan is still to lock in the final cast of his miniseries based on Subhash Chandra Bose. Kabir’s dilemma stems from the spot he suddenly finds himself in, after his leading man, Saif Ali Khan turned down the Amazon Prime project, given that he features in the Netflix original, Sacred Games.

Saif was set to play the role of Colonel PK Sahgal, who fought for Bose-led Indian National Army. A massive set has been erected at Mumbai’s Film City studio several months in advance. In order to abide by the plan, the crew had been informed of a shooting schedule in December, however, Kabir is yet to begin recasting. A source says, “Kabir has a packed 2018, given that he starts filming for the 1983 World Cup film, and must hence wrap this up earlier.”

The eight-part miniseries is eyeing big names for its male and female characters. Parineeti Chopra was among the top contenders for the part of Saif’s colleague-turned-wife, Lakshmi Sahgal. However, it appears that the actor will also be unable to work on the outing, given her other commitments.

lthough actors are not contractually bound to stick to one video-streaming platform at any given point in time, Saif decided to turn down Kabir’s project at the behest of Netflix. “Since Sacred Games is the channel’s first Indian series, they didn’t want to entertain any conflict of interest [on the actor’s part],” says a source.

The poster of Nikhhil Advani’s ambitious production Baazaar that released few months ago featured Saif Ali Khan in not just salt pepper look but his shrewd demeanor did give us a sneak peek into his character. Let us tell you that Saif Ali Khan plays a Gujarati businessman in this socio-economic drama and he will also be seen speaking the language in the film.

While Saif had already practiced Gujarati accent for the Sajid Khan comedy Humshakals, the actor maintained that the lessons he learnt then not only made him familiar with the language but also helped him for Baazaar. The actor asserted that he has tried to add justice to his character by adding some more Gujaratiness to it. On the other hand, Saif revealed that his character in the film will be a strong, dark one with a streak of meanness.

Saif Ali Khan further described his character as that of a ruthless businessman who is apparently said to do distasteful things. He expects the audience to receive his character with hatred because according to him, that is how it is supposed to be. Saif Ali Khan, however, confessed that he was a little scared about doing it when he read the script but realized that was exactly what was so beautiful about his role. Saif, who has portrayed grey roles in films like Omkara and Ek Hasina Thi, also reminisced about how he is essaying such a dark character after a long time.

Baazaar, is also said to mark the debut of veteran actor Vinod Mehra’s son, Rohan Mehra and is directed by Gauravv K Chawla. Set against the backdrop of Mumbai’s dynamic and ever-fluctuating stock market, the release date of the film is yet to be revealed.
