Saif Ali Khan says that though he still gets angry thinking about getting harassed early in his career, he will not talk about it as it’s time to talk about women’s sexual harassment in Bollywood.

The #MeToo movement has opened a can of worms and Saif Ali Khan says he stands in solidarity with women sharing their stories of sexual harassment as he understands the pain they have been through.

The Sacred Games star said he faced harassment years ago, even though it was not sexual in nature. “I have also been harassed in my career, not sexually, but I have been harassed 25 years ago and I am still angry about it,” Saif told PTI. “Most people don’t understand other people. It is very difficult to understand other people’s pain. I don’t want to talk about it because I am not important today. Even when I think about what happened with me I still get angry. Today, we have to look after women,” he added.

The actor has rendered a variety of character sketches throughout his career and opens up about his role, Shakun Kothari in the film, as he finds it both challenging and complex.

The character traces to be of a sharp, astute and money-minded merchant who knows his tricks to extract profit out of every business he undertakes.

Saif went on records to talk about the preparations he had to undergo before essaying his on-screen character in the film. Not only reading and research but he categorically chose to get a first-hand experience of the share market before he started off with his schedule.

Elaborating the same, the actor says, “I have always had a cursory knowledge of the market… speaking to friends and reading books by people like Warren Buffet have been very interesting. To research for this specific part, I drew on many personal equations and people I know in Mumbai. The Gujarati businessman is a definite type…the trick was to make him scary, tough and very cool. The accent also had to work, without making it caricaturish.”

Strong rumours suggest that the much-appreciated web series Sacred Games (based on Vikram Chandra’s novel by the same name), starring Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddique and Radhika Apte, may not have its second season.

It’s funny how until yesterday, things seemed to be on course for this Netflix original. In fact, a trade source had told us, “Director Anurag Kashyap has spoken to the Netflix team and even met with some of the important office-bearers overseas and Season 2 is definitely on.”

We were even informed that Anurag and his only partner Vikramaditya Motwane, who are also co-directing the series, would actually be getting paid much more for it. Even the actors were expected to get a spike in their remuneration.

Gauravv K Chawla: Saif Ali Khan enjoyed lip-synching to ‘Adhura Lafz’

Bollywood’s love for wedding songs has been proven beyond doubt. Several tracks, highlighting different aspects of weddings, have been crafted by music directors and lyrcists over decades. Here comes another one – and a happy one at that. ‘Adhura Lafz’ from debutant director Gauravv K Chawla’s ‘Baazaar’ releases today. The song features Saif Ali Khan, Chitrangda Singh, Radhika Apte and newcomer Rohan Mehra. It was shot at the Camelot Bungalow at Mumbai’s Kemp’s Corner and features Saif lip-synching the number, something he hasn’t done in a long time.

‘Baazaar’ revolves around the stock market and the game of power and money. When asked what makes a song like this relevant to its narrative, the director explains, “It’s a lovely, happy wedding number. I’ve always loved wedding songs in Hindi films and this is my homage and my take on them. I loved how ‘Mahi ve’ had taken the narrative forward in ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ back in 2003. This song does the same thing here. It comes at a crucial juncture and helps the story move ahead. We’ve tried to capture the colours and lights that make a wedding look beautiful. It’s the happiest moment in ‘Baazaar’. The lyrics aptly talk about the fact that each one in that moment is feeling like an achiever. They’ve all got what they wanted. I remember, Rohan really worked hard to get his emotions and his expressions right in the song and Saif enjoyed lip-synching after a long, long time. In fact, I discovered that Radhika is a trained classical dancer and she can dance very well. I think the timing of this song is perfect. We’re in that phase of the year when we have weddings and celebrations everywhere. And who says people who deal with money and power in the stock market don’t enjoy themselves at a wedding?”

I support Tanushree Dutta: Saif Ali Khan

The ‘Baazaar’ actor said that whatever is happening is for the good, and that our society is constantly trying to better itself.

Bollywood is witnessing a storm of sorts, thanks to Tanushree Dutta. The actress arrived back to Mumbai from the US and is standing strong by her sexual harassment case against Nana Patekar.

Soon after that, skeletons started falling off the closet, from Queen director Vikas Bahl, actor Rajat Kapoor, to ‘sanskaari’ senior actor Alok Nath — they all found themselves in the soup.

Supporting the #MeToo movement that has now begun in our country, Saif Ali Khan has shared his views. During the promotions of his upcoming film Baazaar, the actor said, “Whatever is happening is a good thing. It is a development in the society that we are witnessing, as society is constantly trying to better itself.”

He further added, “Back then, there was (issue of) racism in the ’70s, it’s a thing of the past now. We have to struggle to get to a good place. With this movement the change is happening and I am in support of her (Tanushree).”
