Actor Saif Ali Khan attended promotional press conference for his upcoming film ‘Kaalakaandi’ on Monday in Mumbai. During press interaction, Saif said that ‘Kaalakandi is not black comedy.

From the trailer of ‘Kaalakandi’, most of the audience assuming that it comes under black comedy genre but Saif Ali Khan has different opinion on it, he said, “I don’t think it’s a black comedy. I think it is just comedy. Black comedy makes it sound like little niche. Playing a character who is consuming acid (Lysergic acid diethylamide) and being on a such powerful drug is difficult just to make it up so that was challenging for me and we did lot of preparation on that”

Saif Ali Khan completes his 60th film with Kaalakaandi

Saif Ali Khan, who has spent 25 years in Bollywood, entertaining the audience with an array of films like ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, ‘Omkara’ and ‘Being Cyrus’ amongst many others, hits the momentous 60th film mark with debutante director Akshat Verma’s ‘Kaalakaandi’. The actor, who is known for picking distinguishable roles, zeroed in on the dark comedy admittedly after giving it a lot of thought. Eventually, Saif immersed himself so much into the project that he even choreographed the wedding song in the film, ‘Kaala Doreya”. Even earlier on in his career, Saif had suggested hook steps for the song ‘Woh Ladki Hai Kahan’ in ‘Dil Chahta Hai’.

Nary Singh, who is one of the most-talked about characters from the promos of the film, had a fan-girl moment, while working with Saif. While shooting pivotal scenes with him, she was not only awestruck by the actor’s presence on the set, but was also nervous while enacting her scenes. When the director brought it to Saif’s notice, he went out of the way to make her feel comfortable.

Other than Saif, the film also boasts of interesting characters that will draw you into its funny, yet dark narrative. Actor Deepak Dobriyal, known for his performances across indie and mainstream films, tutored his co-stars in the Haryanvi dialect for the movie. While shooting the song, ‘Swagpur ka Choudhary’, a break-meets-funk-rock number with a dash of Haryanvi lyrics, most of the actors found it difficult to lip sync the lines correctly. Deepak, who plays a gangster in the film, came to their rescue and explained the meaning of the lines, which helped his co-stars to slip into the right mood for the number.

Neil Bhoopalam, who plays an underworld don styled himself keeping the fashion of the 80s and Amitabh Bachchan in mind. His look is replete with long side locks, bell-bottoms and tight shirts. The actor also watched the superstar’s movies to effectively copy his mannerisms.

The film also stars actors like Vijay Raaz, Sobhita Dhulipala, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Akshay Oberoi, Shehnaz Treasury, Shivam Patil and Amyra Dastur.

Kaalakaandi, produced by Cinestaan Film Company and Flying Unicorn, releases on January 12.

Kaalakaandi song ‘Kaala Doreya’ reveals complexities of Saif Ali Khan’s character

The new song of Saif Ali Khan starrer Kaalakaandi titled Kaala Doreya is out and it is surely going to be another wedding song. Sung by Neha Bhasin, rapper Raxstar also has a rap segment in the song.

Neha Bhasin’s voice adds to the entire flirtatious nature of the song, and makes it worth listening to. The song has been composed by Sameer Uddin. While the song has a special performance by Akshay Oberoi and Amyra Dastur with Saif Ali Khan in the film, the YouTube video features small snippets from the film itself. The little deviation lies in the introduction of a slow, funky beat that keeps the song peppy, and the rap by Raxstar.

Ever heard of a wedding song with a psychedelic twist to it? There are various scenes where Saif hallucinates things which are not actually there.

The trailer of the film received positive response from the audience and Saif can be seen in a different avatar. As revealed earlier, Kaalakaandi chronicles the story of six complete strangers living in Mumbai in a span of 12 hours and how their lives intersect.

Did you groove to Kaala Doreya in a recent shaadi?

Kaalakaandi is a thrilling dark comedy written and directed by Akshat Verma and produced by Cinestaan Film Company and Flying Unicorn Entertainment. The film stars Saif in the lead role while Akshay Oberoi, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Deepak Dobriyal, Vijay Raaz, Sobhita Dhulipala and Isha Talwar play pivotal parts.

This is why Saif Ali Khan, Isha Talwar’s underwater smooch in Kaalakaandi was not easy for the actress

South actress Isha Talwar and Saif Ali Khan are seen engaging in underwater kissing in the trailer of Kaalakaandi. Although the scene looks extremely steamy, the actress apparently had to undergo much training to pull it off.

The trailer showed a glimpse of Saif and Isha’s underwater smooch. While Saif being a good swimmer could shoot the scene with much ease, it wasn’t the same for Isha.

The beautiful actress had to undergo training in diving to be able to do the underwater kissing scene. Shooting the scene was also a big task as both the actors had to stay under water for hours along with the camera crew.

Saif and Isha had to breathe from oxygen cylinders in between takes, and try hard to match the coordination, the report added. However, they were able to pull off the shot in just three takes.

Saif Ali Khan opens up about CBFC demanding over 72 cuts in Kaalakaandi

After starring in Rangoon and Chef this year which didn’t do well at the box office, Saif Ali Khan has once again stepped up and will star in a very different role in his upcoming film, Kaalakaandi. The film marks the directorial debut of Delhi Belly writer Akshat Verma and stars Khan in a quirky role.

On Wednesday, we had a fun chat with Saif Ali Khan at the trailer launch of his upcoming film Kaalakaandi, the film which was earlier supposed to release on September 8 this year. The release date was pushed as Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had demanded over 72 cuts in the film. The trailer, which released a day ago, has a lot of cuss words with a lot of intimate scenes between the onscreen couples. Talking about the film being stuck at the CBFC, Saif revealed how they were wondering whether they should release the film on a digital platform before sending it to Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT). He said, “They (CBFC) said, at one point that it (the film) had over 60 cuts. We actually thought we should sell it to somebody thinking that maybe it would work better on a different platform. But it’s not cool either because we didn’t make it for that platform. So, Cinestaan guys listened to me and we decided to see what FCAT says. They gave us one replacement and a U/A certificate.”
