Unleashing his quirky and unconventional side yet again in this dark comedy is Saif Ali Khan and we received a glimpse of the same in the recently released teaser of Kaalakaandi. The actor will turn a year older on August 16 and just two days before the same, the makers of this film are planning to release the trailer of the film.

As of now, Saif Ali Khan has taken off on a vacation with his family – wife Kareena Kapoor Khan and his son Taimur to Gstaad in Switzerland. However, the actor is expected to be back this weekend, right in time to attend the trailer launch of Kaalakaandi. It seems that director Akshat Verma and the rest of the film’s team thought that having this trailer launch before Saif’s special day will be a great pre-birthday gift for the actor.

The trailer launch, we hear, will have the entire ensemble cast of Kaalakaandi, which includes Vijay Raaz, Sobhita Dhulipala, Akshay Oberoi, Shenaz Treasury, Kunaal Roy Kapur and Deepak Dobriyal. As for the film, it is slated to release on September 8.

Saif Ali Khan and I have similar tastes: Akshay Oberoi on working with the actor in Kaalakaandi

Directed by Delhi Belly writer Akshat Verma, the film has Saif and Akshay playing brothers

Akshay Oberoi is teaming up with Saif Ali Khan in his next, Kaalakaandi. Directed by Delhi Belly writer Akshat Verma, the film has Saif and Akshay playing brothers. “It’s a one night story wherein Saif is going through his problems and I am going through mine. As the sun rises, the two of us solve or don’t resolve our problems. There’s also a love story going on, there are gangsters — we don’t necessarily interact with them, but there’s a cause and effect. It’s a crazy Bombay thing, one night’s pagalpan,” explains Akshay.

Akshay, who is sharing the screen space with Saif for the first time, says the latter is the most giving actor on the planet! “Saif is amazing. He has been great to me, absolutely supportive, gives great advice and connects with me every so often,” he says, appreciatively adding, “Saif has had his share of struggle. I know this whole debate (on nepotism) is rife, but he has worked really hard — see how long it took him to get somewhere — he has paid his dues, so he understands somebody in my position,” says Akshay, who made his debut in Isi Life Mein in 2010 and has since then done films like Pizza, Fitoor and Lal Rang, that haven’t done well at the box office. Kaalakaandi will be his big outing with a star.

Interestingly, Akshay has a lot of things in common with the Rangoon actor. “We share similar tastes. It could be because he spent a lot of time in England and I was in the US for the major part of my life. We have the same music tastes, we find similar things funny — our sensibilities are in line. The fact that he chose to do Kaalakaandi it’s incredible. For me, there was no question, it’s a great role and I would die to do it. Saif has so many different commercial things to choose from, but he chose this — I am not saying this is not commercial — but it’s in a different space,” he gushes.

Prod him on the kind of music he and Saif like and he says, “I have been to his house and he has this amazing music system with a record player attached to it. Both of us like Rock and Roll, the ’70s classic rock, Jazz, Blues, etc. We even like the same artistes!”

A special song, recently shot for Akshat Verma’s directorial debut featuring Saif Ali Khan, broke all cinematic rules

On Tuesday, the ensemble cast of Kaalakaandi, featuring Saif Ali Khan, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Akshay Oberoi, Shenaz Treasury, Neil Bhoopalam and Sobhita Dhulipala shot for a wild and wacky song, an impromptu addition to the film. Delhi Belly writer Akshat Verma, who is making his directorial debut with the satirical comedy, was keen on a song that would introduce the characters without revealing their identities and welcome the audience into their mad world.

Mumbai is really cinematic: Saif Ali Khan

Posted in Movies with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 1, 2017 by saifalikhanonline

The 46-year-old actor will be seen portraying Rileen in the film.

Actor Saif Ali Khan, who is gearing up for his next film “Kaalakaandi” which is widely shot in Mumbai, says the city has a cinematic vibe to it.

He feels the movie’s director Akshat Verma has shown the city in the film wonderfully.

“I think Mumbai is really cinematic, and Akshat has shown it wonderfully. Bandra particularly has a lot of character and personality. You feel it’s shot in a real place and you feel that instant connect to the place,” Saif said in a statement.

The 46-year-old actor will be seen portraying Rileen in the film.

“Kaalakaandi” is a Marathi slang for when things go disastrously wrong. The film is a dark comedy about life, death and karma.

It also stars Amyra Dastur, Akshay Oberoi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Deepak Dobriyal, Neil Bhoopalam and Vijay Raaz.

Kaalakaandi: The story of Saif Ali Khan-Akshat Verma’s film, visualised as 8-bit games

Ever since the Kaalakaanditeaser released, we’ve been trying to figure out just what the film’s plot could be.

Director Akshat Verma cryptically mentioned that it’s all about ‘what happens one night’. And from the brief glimpses we’ve seen, we imagine it has something to do with Saif Ali Khan’s character navigating one wild adventure after another. Let’s not forget that Verma is the same filmmaker who gave us the pretty crazy Delhi Belly.

Using 8-bit imagery and Saif’s kooky look from the Kaalakaandi poster, here’s a visual imagining of what might be in store for his character.

Here’s Saif’s character, if he was part of the ping-pong ball hit and break-the-brick game ‘Arkanoid’. Who can forget this game, which used to be one hell of a time-killer back in those days of TV video games and even later in PCs! More than a pastime it used to cater to fidgety, anxious souls when there was no WhatsApp and Facebook to distract us.

The film has three stories and spans one night in Mumbai. It’s hard to even give a one-liner for the movie; it’s too complex a film.

Akshay Oberoi, who has a role in Delhi Belly writer Akshat Verma’s film Kaalgandi, recently revealed that Saif Ali Khan will also feature in one of the three stories that comprise the film.

“Saif and I are cast as brothers in one of the three stories in Kaalagandi. He has a fabulous role; so do I. It’s a story that unfolds in the course of one night. We’ve almost wrapped up the shooting of the film. It is a completely wacky film, and I loved shooting it,” said the actor.

Akshay, who earlier formed a special bond with Randeep Hooda when they worked together in Laal Rang, praised both Saif and Akshat, the director to the skies. “We shot our scenes together in a hurry since Saif needed to move on to his next project, a remake of the Hollywood film Chef. I am thrilled to be in the film and to be working with him. He’s the best co-star I’ve had yet. I also think that Akshat can write dialogues better than some international people. I hope the film is a game changer for me. I’ve never had more fun playing any part,” he gushed.

Shedding more light on Akshat’s film Akshay said, “Akshat’s film is a bit different than Delhi Belly. It’s darker, but still absolutely hilarious. The film has three stories and spans one night in Mumbai. It’s hard to even give a one-liner for the movie; it’s too complex a film.”

When asked why Akshat’s film is titled Kaalagandi, Akshay Oberoi laughs, “Now that’s something only a mind as wacky as Akshat’s can answer. I think Kaalagandi is a crazy title and that is what Akshat wanted. The title matches the film’s zany tone.”
