1. Farhan Akhtar met Preity Zinta when she first came to Mumbai for the screen test for Kya Kehna and told her that whenever he makes a film, he wanted her to be in it.

2. The original gang was supposed to be Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan and Akshaye Khanna.

3. That screen test was with Akshaye Khanna, FYI.

4. After Hrithik and Abhishek walked out of the project, Farhan Akhtar waited almost 10 months to get an appointment with Aamir Khan to discuss the film.

5. Akshaye Khanna was originally supposed to play Akash. But when Aamir Khan was brought on, they swapped roles.

6. Saif Ali Khan was almost not going to do the movie because it was made with sync sound, instead of getting actors to dub their lines.

Will we ever see a sequel for Saif Ali Khan’s Dil Chahta Hai?

Farhan Akhtar is ready to roll out his plan for a Dil Chahta Hai sequel. He has hinted that there something more in store about this piece of news.

We all love sequels, especially if the sequel is a film such as Dil Chahta Hai. Farhan Akhtar’s debut was a path-breaker in its time for it was so real. Granted it dealt with people like us and their first-world problems, but it was as much about friendship, life and love.

There were no backup dancers — unless they were ironical — and there was no melodrama either. If heartbreak happened, sometimes you could deal with it with a trip to Goa, at other times, it changed your life.

Starring Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna as the three male protagonists, it stayed with the 90s kids. Probably that is why there is so much interest in its sequel, if it happens. Director Farhan Akhtar teased us with one when Dil Chahta Hai completed 15 years.

Dil Chahta Hai starred Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni and Dimple Kapadia. The film was Farhan Akhtar’s directorial debut.

The iconic film celebrates 15 years today.

Who just doesn’t love Dil Chahta Hai?

The oft-watched timeless tale of friendship between Akash, Sid and Sameer and how they experience love and live, is still as fresh and relevant as it was 15 years back when it was released this day.

Dil Chahta Hai was a film that brought in the millennial wave to Bollywood cinema, and showed the way out to rehashed plots like revenge dramas and family reunion plots. The film also marked the directorial debut of the multi-faceted Farhan Akhtar, who later directed Lakshya and the Don franchise, before foraying into acting.

One film that made his film career : Saif Ali Khan

Posted in Saif Ali Khan with tags , , , , , , , , on May 17, 2015 by saifalikhanonline

Humans are really big on getting more chances at something because sometimes your potential gets noticed only after some point of time. Like many spiritual gurus opine, there is a time for everything. Same goes for success. It visits you only when you deserve to get lauded and loaded. In Bollywood, there have been a few actors who were privileged enough to get a second chance at their career and today, are one of the superstars.

Saif Ali Khan

Turning Point: Dil Chahta Hai

The Nawab of Bollywood has seen a lot of ups and downs in his career. He debuted with Parampara which didn’t help him much while Aashiq Awara made him popular, but it was Main Khiladi Tu Anari which propelled him forward positively. However, even after doing many films success eluded him, apart from a sporadic Kya Kehna (a Preity Zinta film) or Hum Saath Saath Hai (an ensemble film). It was in 2001 that Dil Chahta hai released and things changed. It was as if Bollywood has refound a long lost actor who has skills but needed someone to hone them. The forever in love Sameer played by Saif is the one best friend we all have! Saif Ali Khan had finally arrived.

5 Reasons Why Dil Chahta Hai Is Bollywood’s Coolest Youth Oriented Movie

Posted in Movies with tags , , , , , , , , on June 10, 2014 by saifalikhanonline

It was 2001 when the norm of Hindi films was a specific order of films. Garish sets and loud dialogues were the staple platter every film had. And out of the blue came a film that trapped the urban sensibilities of the audiences, at a time when mainstream cinema was oblivious to it. Farhan Akhtar’s Dil Chahta Hai is cult for reason.

I still remember watching the first promo of Dil Chahta Hai when I was in seventh standard and I also remember telling my elder brother – “This film looks so different, it doesn’t look like Bollywood stuff.” It being ‘different’ from the other Bollywood movies of its times is definitely the first thing that strikes you about this movie that went on to achieve cult status in the years to come. In an era when every second filmmaker vouches for the uniqueness and originality of his/her movie, Dil Chahta Hai is actually one of the very few movies which lived up to the claim of being charmingly different, amazingly fresh and unabashedly honest in its portrayal of the story of three best friends.
