Saif Ali Khan to play a Haryanvi cop in Ekta Kapoor produced movie

It seems that Saif Ali Khan is taking Ekta Kapoor’s advice to opt for “age-appropriate” roles rather seriously. A few months ago, during a chat, the Balaji head-honcho convinced the actor that he should embrace his age, instead of running from older characters. It has learnt that the actor has agreed to star in director Amit Roy’s film, a thriller set in the Northern belt.

Roy has previously directed the yetto-be-released Shoojit Sircar-produced Running Shaadi.com which is yet to find a release. A source close to the development told Mirror, “A few weeks ago, Amit and his team met Saif and discussed the core idea of the film. In the thriller, he will be seen playing a Haryanvi cop for which he will undergo intensive training.” In the recent past, Kangana played a Haryanvi girl to perfection in Tanu Weds Manu while Aamir Khan is prepping himself to play a Haryanvi wrestler in Nitesh Tiwari’s Dangal.

“He’s not just a cop, but father to a teenage son and the story revolves around his attempts to become the hero in the eyes of his son.” Last time, Saif played a father on-screen was in the Rani Mukerji-starrer Ta Ra Rum Pum. Other than the Amit Roy film which is likely to star later this year, Saif has Vishal Bhardwaj’s next with Shahid Kapoor and Kangana, Vikramaditya Motwane’s next and Sujoy Ghosh’s adaptation of The Devotion of Suspect X with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Now that Sanjay Gupta’s ‘Jazbaa’ is nearing completion, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan announced her next film, which will be directed by Sujoy Ghosh. Taking the opportunity of her appearance at Cannes Film Festival, Bachchan said, “I will head back and continue the shoot of Jazbaa. It is 70% complete and I will shoot the rest in the coming days. After that I will work with Karan Johar on his film. He is such a good friend but this is the first time I will be actually working with him. After that, there are couple of more projects. One of them will be with Sujoy Ghosh. Sujoy did say he was okay with me announcing it.” It is not yet clear, which film Bachchan will be doing with Ghosh. The rumour mill has gone into overdrive with speculation that she could be paired opposite Saif Ali Khan in the adaptation of ‘‘The Devotion of Suspect X’.

Has Kangana Ranaut walked out of Saif Ali Khan’s Devotion of Suspect X due to delays?

Kangana Ranaut is getting set for the promotions of her upcoming film Tanu Weds Manu Returns. The actress also has Nikhil Advani’s Katti Batti in her kitty which she is shooting for. Apart from the two, Kangana was also said to be finalised for Sujoy Ghosh’s adaptation of The Devotion Of Suspect X. However, news sources suggest that she has called an exit from the project.

Buzz is that the actress got extremely upset with the constant delays in the project and thus took a bold step of walking out from the project.

Kangana’s action has got director Sujoy Ghosh and Balaji Motion Pictures back to square one. The film will be further delayed as the team will now have to hunt for a new actress.

The project already has Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui locked in lead roles and Kangana was said to be cast opposite Saif in the film.

Ekta Kapoor is rumoured to have postponed her film based on a Japanese novel ‘The Devotion of Suspect X’ due to differences with Sujoy Ghosh over the budget, may terminate contract with the director

The industry grapevine is abuzz with rumours that Ekta Kapoor’s upcoming project based on Japanese bestselling novel ‘The Devotion of Suspect X’, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, is being indefinitely postponed due to budget issues.

Sources say the producer had fixed a Rs 20-crore budget, but the film’s director Sujoy Ghosh apparently demanded that it be doubled.

Says an insider, “After a lot of struggle, Ekta acquired the rights to the book. She signed a deal with Sujoy and had locked the casting too. However, as per the agreement, the director had to make the film within a limited budget of R20 crore. If overshot, the contract would be terminated.”

The long-in-the-planning, untitled film was supposed go on floors this month with Saif Ali Khan and Kangna Ranaut in the lead. Another source says, “Ekta was keen to have a tight budget for the project, but Sujoy wanted her to extend it by another Rs 20 crore or so. But Ekta put her foot down as she does not want to make it a costly affair. So, she is likely to put the film on hold for the time being or even change the director.”

Sujoy denies the buzz, saying: “Ekta and I are thrilled about the whole concept and the superlative cast mix. The rumours around the film only seem to amuse me.” Shubhodip Pal of Balaji Films also insists that “there is no rift between Sujoy and Ekta.”

Ekta Kapoor had apparently also sent a notice to a South filmmaker for allegedly copying the plot from ‘The Devotion of Suspect X’

After several back-to-back flops like Humshakals, Bulett Raja and more recently, Raj and Krishna DK’s Happy Ending, actor Saif Ali Khan has put himself in the `safe’ hands of producer Ekta Kapoor who is strategising his future moves.

The actor-producer who has been signed on for Sujoy Ghosh’s Bollywood adaptation of the Japanese thriller, The Devotion of Suspect X, being produced by Ekta, recently had a meeting with her in the course of which they discussed two more films which will go on floors once he’s finished with the thriller, co-starring Kangana Ranaut and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

It must be recalled that Saif recently walked out of Reema Kagti’s romantic drama, being bankrolled by his Dil Chahta Hai producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, over several creative and financial differences. Since then, he’s turned down quite a few offers by other filmmakers.

“He’s being extremely selective about the projects that he greenlights. His discussion with Ekta revolved around his career and she’s given him some sharp insights. One of her sug gestions was to do concept driven films that suit his age and justify his talent. He’s done with playing the urban Casanova and is now looking for more serious roles,“ says a source close to the actor.

Saif is currently training in kickboxing for Sujoy’s film in which he has quite a few action sequences. Adds the source, “He’s working hard on his physique too. The film starts in May after which he will shoot Sameer Sharma’s Jugalbandi, the only other film he has given the nod to.“

Did Saif Ali Khan sign two more films with Balaji Films?

Did the Queen of Soaps signs the out-of-form Saif for a 3-film deal?

This good actor needs just one hit to put his career back on track. Ekta Kapoor’s adaptation of The Devotion of Suspect X might just be the game changer.

What is heart warming to note is that Balaji’s head honcho has recognised Saif’s talent and signed him for two more films.

Sujoy Ghosh who wields the megaphone for the adaptation has cast Kangana Ranaut opposite Saif.

The actor said last year that he will make some wise decisions this year and make up for all the bad ones.Aarakshan, Bullet Raja, Agent Vinod, Go Goa Gone, Humshakals, Happy Ending…. the list is long. Seems, Saif is keeping his word.
