The poster of Nikhhil Advani’s ambitious production Baazaar that released few months ago featured Saif Ali Khan in not just salt pepper look but his shrewd demeanor did give us a sneak peek into his character. Let us tell you that Saif Ali Khan plays a Gujarati businessman in this socio-economic drama and he will also be seen speaking the language in the film.

While Saif had already practiced Gujarati accent for the Sajid Khan comedy Humshakals, the actor maintained that the lessons he learnt then not only made him familiar with the language but also helped him for Baazaar. The actor asserted that he has tried to add justice to his character by adding some more Gujaratiness to it. On the other hand, Saif revealed that his character in the film will be a strong, dark one with a streak of meanness.

Saif Ali Khan further described his character as that of a ruthless businessman who is apparently said to do distasteful things. He expects the audience to receive his character with hatred because according to him, that is how it is supposed to be. Saif Ali Khan, however, confessed that he was a little scared about doing it when he read the script but realized that was exactly what was so beautiful about his role. Saif, who has portrayed grey roles in films like Omkara and Ek Hasina Thi, also reminisced about how he is essaying such a dark character after a long time.

Baazaar, is also said to mark the debut of veteran actor Vinod Mehra’s son, Rohan Mehra and is directed by Gauravv K Chawla. Set against the backdrop of Mumbai’s dynamic and ever-fluctuating stock market, the release date of the film is yet to be revealed.

Directed by Gauravv K. Chawla, Baazaar revolves around the Indian stock market. Reportedly, it’s also inspired by the 2013 Hollywood hit The Wolf of Wall Street and will see the late Vinod Mehra’s son, Rohan Mehra, make his debut.

“It’s a bit early to talk about Baazaar, but I have to say it was very nice getting into that space,” Saif says. “My character is that of a Gujarati businessman. So, again, it’s a different look that I have. I will also have a little white in the hair!” He adds, “There were many lines to learn. I have to go through a lot of pages of dialogues and it’s very interesting and challenging. I thoroughly enjoyed it. ”

Saif’s known to be on good terms with most people in the industry, but unfortunately he ended up having a showdown with Sajid Khan after Humshakals. He even went on record to say that the movie was a mistake. Now, however, he says that he really likes Sajid.

“I really like him, and I hope he’s not upset that I keep saying that I really like him!” smiles Saif. “I would like to say that Humshakals is just another film that didn’t do well, but still made Rs 60 crore.

The first look of Gauravv K Chawla’s thriller Baazaar was unveiled last week by the producer and his longtime collaborator Nikkhil Advani. Saif Ali Khan dominated the poster and a silhouette figure engulfed him in the background.

The figure was later revealed to be Rohan Mehra, the son of late veteran actor Vinod Mehra, who will make his acting debut with this film. However, there is no trace of the leading lady of the film. Now, is it reported that the makers have signed Radhika Apte for the film.

Co-producer Madhu Bhojwani said, “It is a performance-oriented character and we wanted someone who could take the audience by surprise. Keeping that in mind, we think Radhika fits the bill. She is a fine actress.”

Apte is currently shooting for R Balki’s social drama Padman opposite Akshay Kumar. The report by The Asian Age quotes Bhojwani as saying, “Radhika is the powerhouse of talent, who has a lot of potential. Baazaar will give her a platform unlike any of the projects that she has been associated with in the past. Her character will have different layers and will be seen in a different avatar in this film.”

It was earlier reported that Baazaar has scope for two leading ladies to be cast opposite Saif and Rohan each. Initially, it was speculated that Nimrat Kaur will be cast opposite Saif and Fatima Sana Shaikh opposite Rohan. However, Shaikh went on to sign Vijay Krishna Acharya’s period drama Thugs of Hindostan later which reduced her chances of working in Baazaar.

While Apte has been roped in to play a part now, it has not been revealed the male actor she will be cast opposite. Also, there is no word of confirmation on who the other leading lady is.

Baazaar is slated to release in December this year.
