Saif Ali Khan has wrapped up the final schedule of Raja Krishna Menon’s gastronomical comedy, ‘Chef’, last week in New York before leaving for London. The actor and the crew who were shooting in sub-zero temperature were hit by a snowstorm which led to below zero temperature.
Film produced by Bhushan Kumar and Vikram Malhotra, the team shot the film’s opening scenes, which showcase Saif’s character’s life as a professional chef, in the week-long New York schedule. He later leaves his life in the Big Apple behind to start a food truck in India.
The major chunks were shot in a restaurant, a diner, a bar and on the streets of Manhattan in sub-zero temperatures. Though it was miserably cold, the weather worked in the film’s favour as the script demanded snowfall. Raja said, “We have portrayed a unique side of New York, shot in places where our films rarely go to.We were hit by a snowstorm and the temperature dipped to below zero. It was really sporting of Saif and my crew to shoot in such extreme conditions so that we could use it to our advantage and create the exact mood I had envisaged for this section of the film.“
The film is a remake of Hollywood comedy-drama by the same name and is slated to release on July 14.
Kareena Kapoor Khan, who is gearing to have her first child this December, could well have the baby in London. According to close friends of Saif and Kareena, the plan is to slip out of the city and go somewhere far away from prying eyes. A source close to the family says, “The paparazzi is clicking close-ups of her baby bump. There are too many prying eyes here in Mumbai, making her feel odd rather than special.” In fact, recently, the actress even lost her cool while speaking on the subject. “I’m pregnant, not a corpse. And what maternity break? It’s the most normal thing on earth to produce a child. It is high time the media backed off. Stop treating me any different from what I ever was. Anybody who is bothered shouldn’t work with me… but my work goes on as is, like always. Stop making it a national casualty.”
London, according to close sources, is where the Pataudi parivar spends its maximum time when away from India. Saif and his sister Soha Ali Khan have both spent their formative years there. Their mother Sharmila Tagore too has fond feelings for the city as her husband, the late Nawab Pataudi loved spending time there. “Sharmilaji herself spends a lot of her time in London and has dvised Kareena and Saif that London could be a less stressful option for them to welcome their first child,” the source adds.
