The poster of Nikhhil Advani’s ambitious production Baazaar that released few months ago featured Saif Ali Khan in not just salt pepper look but his shrewd demeanor did give us a sneak peek into his character. Let us tell you that Saif Ali Khan plays a Gujarati businessman in this socio-economic drama and he will also be seen speaking the language in the film.

While Saif had already practiced Gujarati accent for the Sajid Khan comedy Humshakals, the actor maintained that the lessons he learnt then not only made him familiar with the language but also helped him for Baazaar. The actor asserted that he has tried to add justice to his character by adding some more Gujaratiness to it. On the other hand, Saif revealed that his character in the film will be a strong, dark one with a streak of meanness.

Saif Ali Khan further described his character as that of a ruthless businessman who is apparently said to do distasteful things. He expects the audience to receive his character with hatred because according to him, that is how it is supposed to be. Saif Ali Khan, however, confessed that he was a little scared about doing it when he read the script but realized that was exactly what was so beautiful about his role. Saif, who has portrayed grey roles in films like Omkara and Ek Hasina Thi, also reminisced about how he is essaying such a dark character after a long time.

Baazaar, is also said to mark the debut of veteran actor Vinod Mehra’s son, Rohan Mehra and is directed by Gauravv K Chawla. Set against the backdrop of Mumbai’s dynamic and ever-fluctuating stock market, the release date of the film is yet to be revealed.

Now, Mirror has learnt that the actress could be playing a cop in Nikhil Advani’s Snow, which will be directed by Ranjit Tiwari, who recently made his directorial debut with the Farhan Akhtar-starrer Lucknow Central.

Confirming the news, Nikhil said, “Sonakshi and I had been in talks for another film revolving around a real life incident in which she’s been paired opposite Saif (Ali Khan). I was comfortable with her so once Ranjit’s script was complete, I shared it with her. She showed interest during the narration, we are now waiting for her final revert,“ says the filmmaker, going on to rave about Sona’s performances in Dabangg, Lootera and Akira. “Akira in particular was a challenging role with kickass action. There is a fair amount of action in our film too which is why I think Sonakshi is a perfect fit for a role she has never played before.“

Nikhil goes on to add that the film is set in Manali during the winter and snow is an essential part of the narrative. “It’s a film on a serial killer, on the same lines as David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Tate Taylor’s The Girl on the Train. We are really excited and can’t wait for it to take off,“ he exults.

The box office hasn’t particularly favoured Saif Ali Khan for the last few years, with the actor braving almost 10 debacles since his last hit, Race 2 (2013), hit the marquee. While his contemporaries dismiss BO numbers, citing that they may not reflect people’s choice, Khan, who is currently prepping for the release of his Raja Krishna Menon-directed film, Chef, confesses that he is desperate for a hit. “It is important that Chef performs well, else I will have to question what is going wrong [with my career]. It affects my image of being a star, because, a star is supposed to be bankable. Yet, it doesn’t affect my confidence.”

Khan, who is currently shooting for India’s first Netflix original, ‘Sacred Games’, says box-office success is a validation of an actor’s credibility. But, he is quick to add that the roles coming his way reveal a different story. “[Despite the debacles of my past films], I still have three films and a Netflix series in my kitty. I have been the first choice for all these projects. So, I am sure I have done something right.” Addressing himself as a “late bloomer”, Khan says he has only begun understanding which script would develop into a notable outing, recently. “I am doing better work, working with better directors than I have,” says the actor, who has Akshat Verma’s ‘Kaalakandi’ and ‘Bazaar’, by Nikkhil Advani in the pipeline.

In 2017, Saif Ali Khan is ready with back to back four films. While, Rangoon has already released, Kalakaandi, Chef, and Bazaar are ready to hit the screens soon. Saif’s Chef is going to release in October and there were rumours that his another film Baazaar was supposed to release in December.

There were reports the makers wanted to release the film on Christmas weekend, now everyone knows which film is going to release on Christmas. The Christmas weekend is always been profitable for films so, Salman Khan is coming with Tiger Zinda Hai on that weekend.

However, according to some trade analysts, Saif will never allow his films to clash with one of his close friends and superstar Salman’s film. Although both the films Baazaar and Tiger Zinda Hai are different genre films, still no one will take the risk to stand against Salman Khan.

This is to notice that John Abraham starring film Parmanu is going to release on 8th December and then 15th December week is free, so makers can think of that week for Baazaar.
