Streaming platform Netflix’s first original Indian show Sacred Games has been generating high interest, and rightly so.

The eight-episode series, which will be available on Netflix from July 6, is packed with pedigree. Sacred Games has been directed by reputed filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane and has a top-drawer cast that includes Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte. The adaptation of Vikram Chandra’s 2007 novel of the same name revolves around police officers, the Research and Analysis Wing, the underworld, corrupt politicians, shady godmen, and a nuclear bomb. Netflix’s involvement will ensure that Indian talent gets a global platform – even though the novel is in English and the series will mostly be in Hindi.

Web series spinning big monies – Saif Ali Khan’s Sacred Games

Posted in Movies with tags , , , , , , , , , on May 10, 2018 by saifalikhanonline

The content war for web series is getting fierce. The money being spent on besting the competition is astounding. With Amazon producing more than 20 original series in India, Netflix too has announced seven big names into the game, the battle is going full throttle.

Sacred Games is yet another Netflix’s Indian Original series and they are leaving no stone unturned to make sure they are opening the doors wide when it comes to budgets. Though no one is speaking about the figures, let’s just say the budgets are better than Phantom Films usual.

The series revolves around a contemptuous Mumbai city cop Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) who is tipped off on the location of crime lord Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). As the lives of these two men collide, it exposes the trappings of a bigger game than the both of them. This Netflix’s Indian Originals based on Vikram Chandra’s 2006 thriller novel Sacred Games. The series will be produced in partnership with Phantom Films and stars Radhika Apte and Rajshri Deshpande. All eight hour-long episodes are to be directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane.

Saif Ali Khan’s Sacred Games: An intoxicating tale in the making

All that transpired one evening on the sets of Sacred Games, India’s first original Netflix series

In 2006, while reading the synopsis of Vikram Chandra’s Sacred Games at a book store in Delhi, I was bemused to note that the author had borrowed a near forgettable character from his last book, Love and Longing in Bombay, to create this narrative. Khakhi-clad Sartaj Singh becomes more than a seemingly lonesome, pitiable divorcee from the first book, when he dons his Sherlock Holmes-cape to investigate why Mafioso Ganesh Gaitonde would remain holed up in the heart of Mumbai instead of enjoying the luxury that his sinister activities has earned him. When Netflix announced its first desi series based on the book, I, like many fans of Chandra, was instantly intrigued.

Posted in Saif Ali Khan with tags , , , , , , , , , on March 11, 2018 by saifalikhanonline

Ahead of web debut, Saif Ali Khan speaks of how the medium is more satisfying than films

He was one of the first from Bollywood to jump on to the digital bandwagon when he gave his nod to the Netflix original, Sacred Games, in June 2016. A year-and-a-half and completion of the shoot later, Saif Ali Khan says the medium, by its very nature, offers much more creative satisfaction to artistes.

“It is liberating as an actor to have a platform [like Netflix] to act on. Vikram [Vikramaditya Motwane] and Anurag [Kashyap] have been wonderful directors. With no censorship, this platform offers creative freedom. That’s what makes it so exciting,” says Khan, who plays cop Sartaj Singh, in the adaptation of Vikram Chandra’s novel by the same name.
