After the massive success of the Salman Khan starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan, director Kabir Khan is gearing up for his next release, Phantom. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Siddharth Roy Kapur, the film stars Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif and is based on the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. At a suburban multiplex, the makers along with the cast and crew launched its trailer today. Here is a sneak peek of what happened at the do:
Kabir Khan on Phantom
This is a special film for me as it’s the first film after I stepped out of Yash Raj Films. I was wondering what to do next and that’s when I met Hussain Zaidi (author) and that’s how Phantom shaped up. The film is based on Hussain’s book Mumbai Avengers. When I read the book, it just blew my mind.
Sajid Nadiadwala on Phantom
I am very happy that some people like Kabir are making different kind of cinema. After Highway I have decided to back more such content-oriented films. So I usually make sure that I don’t miss out on a good story and Kabir is an excellent director with a vast knowledge about world politics. I am happy to be the producer for his film.
Katrina Kaif on Kabir Khan
Kabir is the sweetest director I have ever worked with. He always casts me if I fit the role. I remember when I met him for the first time he let me talk and he was just listening to what I had to say and that’s when I knew that he will be a good friend. I always enjoy working with him.
Saif Ali Khan on playing an agent
Agent Vinod was different from Phantom. When Kabir offered me Phantom I loved the story because I love watching such films and reading such stories. I totally believed in his vision and followed what he asked me to do. He is not someone who will just shoot a scene; he does his research before asking his actors to act. It was a great experience shooting for this film and I learnt many things from Kabir.
Katrina on learning action
Ek Tha Tiger also had action but it was different. For Phantom I had to learn other forms of action as Kabir believes in keeping it real. I was trained on how to hold a gun and also how to fire it. We also shot in Beirut, Lebanon and several other locations and it was an outstanding experience. The sad part is now we can’t go back because of the given circumstances. This is what I like about Kabir, he takes you to never-seen-before locations.
Saif Ali Khan on working with Katrina
I have known Katrina for many years now and it was a great experience working with her. I remember wherever we used to shoot, she used to click pictures of the location and she does her own research on her phone just to see what more we can do! She is a very hard working actress and keeps asking the director how she can perform better.
Kabir Khan on Pakistan
This film does not show Pakistan as a terrorist country, the message is that because of a few extremists how our thought process changes. We need to look beyond these extremists. For Bajrangi Bhaijaan I have got a fabulous response from both the countries so I wish we can think beyond these boundaries.
Kabir Khan on his star cast
Katrina and I have always enjoyed working together and as Saif said, she always asks questions and wants to better her performance. She also gives several inputs. I have always loved Saif’s sensibilities and when I finished writing this film he was the first actor who came to my mind. He is an avid reader and has a lot of potential. He is a fantastic actor too.
