In an interview, Raj and DK spoke about doing the film Go Goa Gone, which was a paradigm shift for them as filmmakers. Raj said, “We were winning awards for Shor In The City, a dramatic and acclaimed film and then you go and say ‘I want to do films about zombies.’ Saif’s reaction was ‘This is ch***yapa,’ but I want to do this. (sic)”

He further explained that while many actors were eager to listen to the narration, they backed out after learning about the zombies. Raj further said, “Nobody took us seriously. A lot of people met with us and said, ‘You made Shor In The City’ let’s meet.’ And then we show them a presentation and then the zombies come. They be like ‘acchaaa, okay thank you’. Later we used to hear them saying ‘you guys have lost it’ like weird people, crazy idiots. What it did in hindsight was the things we could do as filmmakers. (sic)”

Saif Ali Khan revealed he wasn’t paid for Go Goa Gone. The actor had starred in the horror-comedy with Kunal Kemmu, Vir Das and Anand Tiwari. The 2013 film was directed by Krishna DK and Raj Nidimoru and was a commercial success.

Talking about the genre of horror-comedy, Saif said that Go Goa Gone was ‘not meant to be hugely commercial’ and him forgoing his fee was the only way the movie could have been made.

Saif said, “Go Goa Gone was a very indie, niche kind of a film. It was a zombie comedy and was not meant to be hugely commercial. It was just a fun idea and I didn’t even get paid for that as that was the only way to make that film. Bhoot Police is a lot more commercial and has a rooted idea. I am looking forward to spinning it into a franchise.”

The actor added that he realised that there is a lot of potential in the emotion of fear when he watched his son Taimur react to the horror film The Mummy. “Let me talk about the experience of watching Mummy. The three of us (Saif, Taimur, Kareena Kapoor) were snuggled up and Taimur wasn’t that scared but scared enough to bond with us. It showed me that there is a lot of potential in the emotion of fear. It’s a strong market if something gets you together with your kids,” he said.

The Family Man co-creator Krishna DK has revealed Saif Ali Khan’s expletive-laden reaction to the pitch for Go Goa Gone, the 2013 zombie comedy in which he played the supporting role of Boris, a Delhi man masquerading as a Russian gangster.

In an appearance on comedian Sorabh Pant’s podcast, Krishna DK also said that he didn’t have any trouble convincing Shahid Kapoor andManoj Bajpayee for their respective Amazon Prime Video projects. Krishna works with his longtime creative partner Raj Nidimoru. Together, they are known as Raj and DK.

He said, “Go Goa Gone, we had Kunal (Kemmu) in mind right from the get-go. And for the role of Saif, we only had to meet him once. And we met him once, gave him the basic idea, and he heard it, and he said, ‘Yeh toh ch******a hai, mujhe karna hai.’ So that’s how simple it was.”

Goa Gone also featured Kunal Kemmu, Vir Das, Anand Tiwari, and others. A sequel, set around an alien invasion, was confirmed by producer Dinesh Vijan last year. “The team of Roohi is writing the sequel. The writer came up with the idea and I loved it and then we developed it. Eros said let’s announce it and we did. We just need to give every actor, who was there in the first part, a little more like a 2.0 version and bring something new,” he said.

The producer-actor said that he tried making Kunal understand his point; he said, “Oh come on, it’s for the good of the movie.”

Saif Ali Khan later added that he regretted his move. He said, “I feel really bad.” Apologizing to him on camera, Saif said, “Sorry Kunal, shouldn’t have done it.” We wish we can find this cut scene clip somewhere on the internet and enjoy yet another few minutes/seconds of the gem called Go Goa Gone.

Part 2 of the film was announced in 2018 and was supposed to go on floors in January 2019. Later it was said that the film is pushed and will go on floors in September 2020. However recent reports suggest that the film will now be pushed further. In a recent interaction with media, Kunal Kemmu revealed the real reason for the film’s delay. He said that they don’t have the intellectual property rights of the film which is very important for filming the sequel. Hence the producer and the logistics involved are coming together and working on it after which the filming will be possible. Hence the sequel is taking so long to kick off.
